New York filming Bermuda Clothing Commercial

We have begun production in New York on the commercial for the Bermuda based female clothing line. Once the commercial is released I will disclose the name and website. New York has been the landscape for many fashions and we thought it fitting to use it as the backdrop for this clothing line. id I mention that it feels like it’s 6 degrees outside? Well it does but the mere passion for creation makes the climate take a backseat. I spent some time today scouting locations and bright and early we will begin filming. Stay tuned for the exclusive photos of behind the scenes of production. If you are in the New York area and are looking to be an extra let me know on twitter @deshaundavis

APPLEVISION - Just can't call it TV anymore

All I can say is “thank you.” I am so grateful to the mindspace that designers and developers of the greatest creations from Apple dream in. Every product that they develop always stretches my mind to the enormous possibilities there are in the world. I am filming a commercial in New York next week and the mere glance at this new AppleVision television (65 inches of OMG, 30 bit color debth insanity) has literally changed the creative direction I am going to pursue. The clarity and simplicity is what I want to add to my art form as a filmmaker. Imagine the abilities of this television. You will be able to move your hand a certain way to change out icons and change channels. It will be able to store HD movies, those that you buy or create to the tune of 4TB - wowzers. It is speculated to be arriving by Christmas 2012. So start saving your “idollars” now because this will be the top choice of Visa users all over the world. And somehow they have figured out a way to make me feel as though I’m not a good enough Christian if I don’t have everything they make. Thanks Steve for the voodoo trickery. Gotta love it! #memberofmacaddictUSA

My Interview with Spike Lee

My interview with Spike Lee in Jacksonville Florida was a adventurous experience to say the least. Brother Spike and I disagree about many positions but I have always admired his courageousness and his accomplishments as writer/director. We talked about Jacksonville and how it was a major hub for the slave trade once upon a time and how that tide has changed in this current time - especially now with a black mayor: wowzer. In the midst of our reflective and reminiscent conversation we were interrupted by a lady that felt Spike should make a movie about the life of Dorthy Dandrith and that SHE should be the staring actress. Not only had Halle Berry already inked this role, and the film is probably at RedBox, but this lady was no Halle Berry. I guess she didn’t think resembling the acclaimed singer was a deal breaker for the film. She went on to SING in front of us and create her own casting moment. This was in a closed, security protected room. Not quite sure how she even got back there. One thing she didn’t lack was confidence. Mr. Lee smiled and took her script and was very polite with her. Unfortunately that event was so bizarre that it ended our interview. I couldn’t help but think to myself, did this lady “do the right thang?” #Iknowthatwascorny

House - cinematic excellence.

It’s no surprise to those that know me that the FOX series HOUSE™ is one of my all time favorite shows on television. Not JUST the rebellious genius of Dr. House (played by Oxford, England’s, Hugh Laurie) but the visual experience is simply gorgeous. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better their decision use Canon 5D Mark ii for the finale episode told me that we were cut from the same cloth because that’s my camera of choice. Although you can often predict the “essence” of what will happen on the roller coster ride from each episode - from what can’t be solved to the “ah hah” moments - it’s still an incredible ride week after week. My Monday nights will never be the same.

EMMY HONORS

For over 10 years I have had the privilege of personally knowing THE renowned 7 time emmy award winner Mr. Bryan Hickox. And for several years I actually shared a studio with him. (well it was his studio I sorta slept there, followed him around and did whatever he asked) As I think about my "upbringing" in film world this man showed me so much and had so much patience with me as a young aspiring director. I spoke to Mr. H last week and he was on his way to film in Africa (I believe that's what he said) and I said "...wow, you don't slow down you get faster and more efficient..." he just laughed. (He's well over 60 and looks like a million bucks) I thank God for my mentors in life. (I have 4) Knowing him is MY personal honor and forever he sits on the shelf of my heart. Shout out Mr. H. -Junior Dawg
